Arbor Day Tree Planting

We visited three local schools to celebrate Arbor Day by planting a maple tree at each playground. The kids had so much fun learning and getting their hands dirty. And they now get to watch their tree bloom this spring and witness its changes each season, knowing they played a part in its growth.

At each school, little faces were pressed against the windows when we arrived as they eagerly waited to come out and get started. But before digging, students put on their orange ‘digging shirts’ that they decorated with their favorite truck stickers.

“This is the best day ever! I am wearing the same shirt as my classmates.”

what are we doing today?

Then, we gathered all our new friends and explained the meaning behind Arbor Day and how we will celebrate this national holiday by planting a tree.

Next, the kids grabbed a shovel and took turns digging. Along the way, they even found ‘mommy and daddy worms’ and ‘gems’ to stash in their pockets to show their families.

Our arborist, who was bestowed Tree Master Rick, was there to guide the kids and answer all their thought-provoking questions:

What color are these leaves going to be?

Did you know my daddy is stronger than you?

How long will it take for the tree to grow big?

Before the tree could go into the hole, they added organic peat moss and used it to help fill in around the root ball until the tree was secure in the ground.

The kids had a laugh figuring out if the tree was straight or crooked!

Can’t forget…

Lastly, the kids grabbed watering cans to give the tree a big drink so it could thrive in its new environment.

Thank you

to all the students who helped us celebrate Arbor Day in the best way!
